President GEJ has honored the designer of the Nigerian flag, Mr. Taiwo Akinkunmi. Akinkunmi was yesterday, September 29, 2014, employed as a Special Assistant to the President and placed on a lifetime salary.  President Jonathan reportedly directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to ensure that “Akinkunmi is placed on the salary of a Special Assistant to the President forever”. Manchester United considering midweek friendlies abroad

Image
Reports suggest a lack of Champions League football this season could cost United more than £40m. United's managing director Richard Arnold says lucrative fixtures overseas are something the club will "continue to look at". An early League Cup exit means they will play only three more midweek games this season, all in the Premier League. The club reported a record annual revenue of £433.2m for the financial year 2013-2014, and profits of £23.8m. But not being in a European competition this year could affect that revenue by around 10%. More than 100,000 fans watched United's 3-1 win over Real Madrid in Michigan this summer during the side's pre-season tour of the United States. And Arnold believes manager Louis van Gaal would be receptive to similar fixtures during the Premier League campaign. "We have a fantastic partnership in terms of ou

$9.3m scandal: Oritsejafor says I have no hands in the deal

Image
The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, on Monday, said he knew nothing about the controversial $9.3m smuggled into South Africa by two Nigerians and an Israeli, using his private jet. Oritsejafor broke his silence during the National Executive Council meeting of CAN at the National Christian Centre, Abuja. The CAN leader regretted that there had been attempts in the media to link him with the incident by mischievous elements, adding that he had kept quiet all the while because he needed to explain his position to the church, which he said, was his primary constituency. Oritsejafor declared that he was never a party to the movement of the $9.3m from Nigeria to South Africa to purchase arms and ammunitions. He said,  “I wish to assure you that I will not do anything to tarnish the image of Jesus Christ or compromise the divine standard of the church. As you are all aware, the media has been awashed in the past

Pics from George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin wedding

Image
George Clooney, the man long considered one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors, followed up his private wedding to British human rights attorney Amal Alamuddin with a civil ceremony in Venice, Italy, on Monday. Clooney, 53, and Alamuddin, 36, arrived at Venice's city hall, the Ca' Farsetti palazzo in a water taxi appropriately named "Amore," or "Love." Venetian authorities stopped pedestrian and boat traffic in the area for the ceremony. Clooney wore a gray suit and dark tie, while Alamuddin was dressed in flowing cream trousers, a cream top with a blue border and a wide-brimmed matching hat. The couple spent about 10 minutes inside the venue before boating to their hotel, with well-wishers lining the canal. Rai, Italian state television, later reported that they had left Venice on a private jet, heading for London leaving "Amore" free for other visitors to the city. Indeed a romantic wedding!

Meet 'Lady Liberty': The UAE's first female fighter pilot leads mission against IS

Image
Major Mariam Al Mansouri was one of the first three to join the Emirati air force when they began to admit women, after she graduated from flight school in 2007. The 35-year-old, who has been dubbed "Lady Liberty" served in the country's army before she began training as a fighter pilot. Earlier this year, the Emirati government presented Maj Mansouri the 'Pride of the Emirates' medal for excellence in her field. On Monday, the Abu Dhabi-born pilot flew out in an F-16 Desert Falcon to join the US and other forces as they began air strikes on IS targets in Syria and Iraq. Yousef Al Otaiba, the Emirati ambassador to the United States, told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” show:  "She is a fully qualified, highly trained, combat-ready pilot, and she led the mission. Actually, funny story is, the US tanker pilots called in for air refueling and asked for the UAE mission, and when they heard a female voice on the other side, they a

Protests grow in Hong Kong amid standoff

Image
Riot police advanced on Hong Kong democracy protesters in the early hours of Monday, firing volleys of tear gas in the worst unrest there since China took back control of the former British colony two decades ago. Protesters erected barricades to block security forces amid chaotic scenes still unfolding as the city center - one of the world's major financial districts - opened for business. Several Hong Kong financial firms advised staff to work from home or go to secondary offices, as Standard Chartered and Bank of China suspended some of its banking operations, due to "situations in certain areas". Many roads leading to the Central business district remained sealed off as thousands defied police calls to retreat.   Also on Monday, the popular photo-sharing app Instagram was blocked in mainland China.  Al Jazeera's Adrian Brown, reporting from Beijing, confirmed the outage saying "many photos from the protests were being posted on th

Motivational Monday

Image
I would like to use this post to apologize to the Jab fam for not updating the blog for quite some time now, it was due to some unforeseen circumstances which i would blog about some day. But we all need to be encouraged or motivated at some point in life and i think the best day to do that is on Monday, a day most of us dread.   Life is filled with wonderfully abundant things, yet that abundance is not always apparent. Thankfulness makes the abundance that is already there evident and available. It is easy to be thankful when everything is going good, when there are no difficulties, when everything is going your way. It is through those dark and difficult times that we look past those things in which we have to be thankful for. For being truly thankful enables you to look past those hardships. To see and appreciate for what is always there, even through the most difficult times.     May the things you already have in your life become more evident to you today
