The 6th seed Murray earned 73 per cent of points on his first serve and broke 5 times on his opponents’ serve to seal a 6-2 6-2 win in an hour and 19 minutes. Returnee Rafael Nadal continued to gather steam in his bid for an ATP World Tour final appearance with a 6-3 6-4 win over qualifier Peter Gojowcyk. Nadal is contesting his first tournament in 13 weeks and has a 14-2 record in Beijing. He is seeking for the 65th trophy of his career and a fifth title of 2014.

  Fighting between the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and Sunni militias is raging in the west of Iraq's Anbar province, with a fierce battle taking place for control of the strategic town of Heet. ISIL had reportedly seized control of most of the town on Thursday, but Sunni militias, fighting on behalf of Iraq's government, swiftly denied the claim saying the battle was ongoing. State television said the armed group had occupied the mayor's office and police station but were locked in fighting with the local Sunni Albu Nimr tribe.

A man appearing to be Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has dismissed Nigerian military claims of his death in a new video obtained by the AFP news agency. "Here I am, alive. I will only die the day Allah takes my breath," Shekau said, adding that his group was running our... Islamic caliphate" and administering strict Sharia punishments in captured towns. The military announced last week that Shekau was dead and that a man who had been posing as the group's leader in the earlier videos had been killed after fighting with troops in the far northeast. But security analysts and the United States questioned the credibility of the military's claim. Meanwhile, the Reuters news agency stated that it had seen screen grabs of the video and that the man looked different from before, with a wider nose, less defined bridge and a rounder face compared to Shekau.   The “Confident” singer has yet to comment on the incident, but reportedly, Justin, who was wearing a camouflage jacket and pants, was on his way back into his hotel after dinner with Kendall Jenner.   Justin has had a rocky relationship with the paparazzi. Just last month, photogs ruined his “peaceful retreat” with on-again girlfriend Selena Gomez near his hometown of Stratford, Ontatio. The singer was charged with dangerous driving and assault following a collision between a minivan and an ATV. In March of 2013, Justin was caught on camera getting into a verbal, almost physical, altercation with photographers in London. Justin’s bodyguards had to restrain the pop star after a photographer made comments to him as he was entering his vehicle.

The first person to be diagnosed with Ebola in the US came in contact with five school-age children over the weekend, according to officials.  Children who were identified as having been exposed to the disease are now being monitored at home, Texas Governor Rick Perry told reporters at a news conference, citing health officials. He added that he was confident that the virus would be contained. A Texas health official echoed Governor Perry’s assurances, and said the chance of Ebola spreading in the state was “very small.” The unidentified Ebola patient was placed in isolation at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas on Sunday. On Wednesday, he was understood to be in critical condition.
